From Amarok Wiki

Important!!!
This task involves making significant changes to the Amarok Wiki, both in structure and in content. Please remember that this is a wiki; that is, it is publicly accessible and editable. As such, you will be working on this wiki alongside others, both from the Amarok community in general and also from the GCI. Please keep this in mind as you work.
Description
The description of this task that I posted on the GCI 2010 website is as follows:
- Amarok's wiki is a vast source of information accumulated over many years. Unfortunately, this time frame means that the wiki has accumulated significant amounts of oudated and unusable information. The largest section of this is the group of pages relating to pre-2.0 releases of Amarok (e.g., Amarok 1.4), all of which are no longer officially supported. As part of the wiki cleanup, these outdated pages need to be identified and moved, while maintaining the self-consistency of the rest of the wiki (mainly involving updating links).
In summary, the scope of this task is supposed to be the identification and moving of the group of pages relating to pre-2.0 releases of Amarok (hereafter, for simplicity and brevity, referred to merely as "Amarok 1.4", which was the last of the pre-2.0 releases), while maintaining the self-consistency of the wiki. This wiki needs lots of loving care, and a task entitled "Wiki Cleanup" would be far too over-reaching to expect anyone to reasonably complete it in any short period of time; thus, the somewhat limited scope.
Tools
Probably the most important page is one that contains links to all of the MediaWiki "toolbox" (or, in MediaWiki terminology, "Special") pages:
The most import and pertinent of the "Special" pages will likely be the following:
- Special:AllPages
- Special:BrokenRedirects
- Special:DoubleRedirects
- Special:ListRedirects
- Special:LonelyPages
- Special:WhatLinksHere
- Special:PrefixIndex
In addition, I highly suggest getting very familiar with the toolbar on the right-hand-side of every page. It contains context links that you will likely find incredibly useful.
Design
Currently, the wiki is more or less organised in a fashion that reflects the general breakdown shown on Main Page. This works out to approximate the following (note, this is a work-in-progress):
Community/ Development/ Proposals/ Rokymotion/
Your task will be to extract the pages that are distinctly geared toward Amarok 1.4 and move them into the following structure:
Amarok 1.4/ - Community/ - Development/ - ... Community/ Development/ ...
The page User:Jtduncan/提案/Wiki#Subpages contains a little more information (we will be using subpages for the purposes of this task, and not categories).
Which pages?
By "pages relating to Amarok 1.4", I mostly mean those pages that are clearly geared for Amarok 1.4, or those that should probably be rewritten rather than updated. Keep in mind that Amarok 1.4 is no longer officially supported, and there is are huge differences between Amarok 1.4 and even Amarok 2.0. In some cases, it would make more sense to archive a page and completely rewrite it (from scratch) rather than trying to go through the laborious process of updating it. It is these pages that I am trying to refer to. For starters, please take a look at User:Jtduncan/Notes; the "Amarok 1.4" will likely be the more interesting, however.
Redirects?
BAD! Redirects are bad. They unnecessarily clutter up the page space and result in extremely annoying clean up tasks in the future. It is (almost) never a good idea to link to a redirect page rather than a page itself. If you make sure that any and all redirect pages you create by moving pages are orphans, going back to clean them up is not quite as annoying. As you work, please make sure to orphan your new redirect pages (by updating existing links) and keep any new links you make up-to-date.
